The Department of Clinical Psychology was officially established in 2008 with the authorization of the Council for the Expansion of Medical Sciences Universities, affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Medical Education. Dr. Dezhkam served as the inaugural Head of the Department.
The permit to admit students into the Master’s program in Clinical Psychology was initially granted in 2006 on a biennial basis. However, following a comprehensive site visit in 2007, the admission policy was successfully upgraded to an annual basis.
From its inception in 2006 through 2025, the Master’s program has hosted 18 cohorts, admitting a total of 134 students.
The Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology was launched in 2009. As of 2025, the department has admitted 15 cohorts of doctoral candidates, totaling 85 scholars. Many graduates currently serve as faculty members across universities of Medical Sciences, institutions under the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, and the Islamic Azad University.
In response to growing societal needs, the Master’s programs in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology and Health Psychology were established in 2024.
